Basic Elderberry Syrup

Here is a go-to recipe for a versatile elderberry syrup that you can take orally, add to tea, or even turn into gummies.

  • 1 stock pot
  • 2 quart jars
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 fine mesh strainer
  • 1 wooden spoon

  • Bring the dried berries and water to a gentle boil over medium-high heat
  • Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 45mins to one hour, allowing the fluid to reduce by half
  • Allow the liquid to cool to lukewarm, just warm enough to melt the honey, Crush down the berries to release all the juice.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer and then stir in the honey
  • Optional to add essential oils: 1 drop each Vitality Oils from Young Living such as thieves, copaiba, frankincense, orange, lemon, ginger, cinnamon bark, and/or nutmeg.
  • Add to your quart jar, label with the date, and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

This should last stored in the refrigerator for at least a few months.
It's recommended to take 1 tablespoon daily for adults and 1 tsp daily for children, to maintain a strong immune system. In acute situations, our family takes the respective dose every 2-3 hours during the day.
